1963: 901 Originally unveiled as the 901 at the 1963 Frankfurt IAA Motor Show, the 911 was launched in 1964 with an air- cooled flat-six engine with 2.0-litre displacement which delivered 130 hp. Number of vehicles produced: 81,100 1997: Type 996 The Type 996 was essentially an entirely new car, while retaining all the character of its heritage. Its water- cooled flat-six engine delivered 300 hp and reduced noise, emissions and fuel consumption. A year later the first 911 Turbo launched – the world’s first series sports car with a turbocharger.
